The third question I get is again a statement – my parents were immigrants, I have been to their town in Italy, and I was able to find nothing.

To this comment I would begin a line of questioning by asking if there were siblings of the parents; how many siblings and where do they live; do the siblings have children (your cousins) and are you in touch with them.

Usually there is someone in the parent’s generation or the generation of the children of the siblings (cousins) that have found useful “stuff” but needs someone to ask about it before releasing the information to a researcher. Here you must act like a detective and piece the information together.
